living the glass age ~ dutch glass biennale
With this glass art biennial, foundation UNexpected Glass wants to bring glass art forward and provide a platform for talented Dutch and Netherlands based artists to show their work. There are relatively few venues for glass art in the Netherlands, but we want to change that.
We believe that visual art with glass is a unique and fascinating art form that deserves more attention from the wider art-loving, curious public.
Living the Glass Age is an exhibition triptych: CONNECTED - THROUGH GLASS - INTO THE FUTURE..
This exhibition brings together 30 professional artists, which puts glass in the arts to a broader public. There will also be a fringe program with interesting lectures, workshops and demonstrations.
CONNECTED is the part of the expo that exhibits contemporary artists who generally do not work exclusively with glass. In their work. The part of the exhibition THROUGH GLASS features artists who work with glass and create highly innovative and strong work. INTO THE FUTURE is an open call for Dutch art students and alumni and students living in the Netherlands working with glass.
Living the Glass Age provides a stage for glass in the arts, but also shares knowledge and increases awareness of the techniques and processes involved in glass makin. By offering a fringe program lectures and interactive sessions, we aim to inspire and enthuse people to explore the world of glass art for themselves. An important starting point is the interaction between the different disciplines, such as art, construction, technology, communication and education.
Participating artists
Olaf Mooij, Boris Maas, Hans van Bentem, Marianne Lammersen, Viviane Sassen, Liesbeth Boon, Nataliya Vladychko, Ida Scheijgrond, Sacha Brienesse, Fleur van de Berg, Floor Kaspers, Jacky Geurts, Carl van Hees, Jehoshua Rozenman, Peter Bremers, Patricia Overdam, Luca Cous, Emmy van de Grift, Marinke van Zandwijk, Monique Verbruggen, Geertje Geertsma, Jeanine Verloop, Jan Hein van Stiphout (performance), Frederic Rombach (glass blowing demo), Rogier Kappers (performance).
