Glass is a fascinating and versatile material. Artists and designers are drawn to its unique qualities: it can be fragile yet strong, transparent as well as opaque, light yet solid. Glass can cut sharply, carry color, and capture or reflect light.
The exhibition Magic of Glass brings together a wide range of glass disciplines. Some artists work with hot techniques such as glassblowing and kiln forming. Others choose cold working techniques, such as engraving, grinding, and sandblasting. There are also artists who combine glass with materials such as wood and textiles, creating surprising cross-pollinations. Magic of Glass presents contrasts side by side: figurative work alongside abstract forms, colorless glass opposite richly nuanced colors, installations and delicate objects. From functional designs and socially engaged art to work without such intentions. In short, this exhibition invites visitors to be surprised by the art of glass. Participating artists: Fleur van den Berg, Ster Borgman, Simsa Cho, Bert Frijns, Emmy van de Grift, Krista Israel, Han de Kluijver, Sabine Lintzen, Richard Meitner, Barbara Nanning, Christine Vanoppen, and Marinke van Zandwijk.
